The sexy 1988 hit "Bye Bye Mon Cowboy" by Mitsou, French Canada’s then 17-year-old queen of sugar-coated pop, could have become a kitschy where-are-they-now cultural footnote. Surprise – Mitsou Gélinas is now a Quebec TV and radio host, manager of the popular Quebec women’s mag Clin d’œil and co-founder of the Montreal studio Dazmo Musique. Her first album, El Mundo – and the longevity of her career – has become a blueprint for a whole generation of determined chart divas from La Belle Province.

On a bien rigolé de la petite Gélinas quand, à 17 ans, elle fracassait les records avec sa voix bonbon. Aujourd’hui animatrice télé et radio, directrice du magazine Clin d’œil et cofondatrice de Dazmo Musique, Mitsou offre une tribune aux jolis minois qui bossent dur. Son premier album, El Mundo, annonçait bien les défis de la nouvelle cuvée de chanteuses pop : prendre d’assaut la planète avec la même détermination que cette pionnière.
